Le gérondif correspond au participe présent précédé de en. Son sujet doit toujours être le même que celui du verbe principal.

On l’emploie :
1- pour indiquer une action simultanée (l’emploi de tout est facultatif)
– Il lisait le journal (tout) en écoutant de la musique.
2- pour indiquer la manière
– Il s’est fait mal en courant.
